Among the more unusual features of this house, which was built in 1862, are its sculptured brackets and roundels and cornice with dentals and modillions.
The main entrance hall has a curving wood staircase with turned banisters, ornamental stringers and a fluted newel post along with an elaborate molded cornice. The brick stoop is a later addition and will soon be replaced by a more appropriate stairwell.
The Nelson Sanford House belongs to the Board of Cuyahoga County Comissioners and is under lease to the Western Reserve Historical Society, which operates it as its OHIO CITY CENTER. Currently on display is an exhibit on nineteenth century Ohio City entitled.
